  2. About TurboCache™ Trial Version

  5. TurboCache is a sophisticated software accelerator that will improve the disk access performance of your Macintosh by an average of 50%.  It is compatible with all models of the Macintosh from the 512K to the Mac II.  Since this is a trial version of our software, it will only operate for a limited amount of time.  For a retail version, see your local dealer or contact PLI directly at (800) 288-8754.

  11. To install TurboCache on your drive, follow these simple instructions:

  13. 1)  TurboCache is a Control Device (or CDEV) that shows up in the Control Panel.  To make it active, copy the file to the System Folder of the drive you wish to operate it on.

  15. 2)  Restart the Macintosh.  This will activate the program automatically.  You can then select the TurboCache icon in the Control Panel to set the desired parameters.

  17. A good example of how TurboCache can improve the performance of your drive can be seen by performing the following test:

  19. 1)  Copy the program called DiskTimer II onto the drive you wish to test.
  20.  
  21. 2)  Run the application without TurboCache installed (or turned off) to measure the "straight" performance of your drive.  Make a note of the results.
  22.  
  23. 3)  Install TurboCache following the instructions above and run DiskTimer II again.  Compare these results with the previous test and you will immediately begin to realize the performance benefits of TurboCache Disk Accelerator software.

  29. 1)  Memory Size Control - You can adjust the size ot the TurboCache memory by using the scroll bar in TurboCache's Control Panel window.  Activity represents the number of requests for data from a disk, while Efficiency is the percent of those requests that TurboCache satisfied from its cache.

  31. 2)  Activity Icons - This optional feature displays small icons that move up and down on the left hand corner of the menu bar next to the Apple icon.  This is also the area where you switch TurboCache on and off.

  33. 3)  Delay Writes - You can control the length of time to delay disk writes.  By setting the value to five seconds, for instance, you are telling TurboCache to delay disk writes for five seconds after the last disk operation.

  35. 4)  Memory Utilitzation Map - This gives you a complete visual display of the memory used by the System, the application currently running, the amount used by TurboCache, and the amount of free system memory.
